Swanley Shopping Centre, a customer of ours since 2018, approached us when the existing CCTV at the centre was no longer in good working order. Working together, we were able to create a tailored solution to meet their requirements.

On review of the CCTV system, it was aged and in a poor state of repair, the combination of which resulted in multiple camera failures and the visibility from the cameras was extremely poor.

With security being so important in a shopping centre, this was not ideal and they needed a solution with a fast turnaround and excellent results.

About Swanley Shopping Centre

Swanley Shopping Centre is a collection of over 30 high street retail outlets situated in the centre of Swanley, Kent. As the shops have a lot of stock and valuables, and of course staff and customers, having a good working CCTV system is very important for all of the businesses in the centre.

With an ever-increasing need to ensure public safety and premises security, a fast solution was needed, but on a limited budget. This was when Turner Security Group were contacted to run an initial site survey and create a plan for the future of the centre’s security.

The solution

Using our expert knowledge of security at shopping centres and through our discussions with the team at Swanley Shopping Centre, we designed and installed the following system:

We recommended the Hikvision Power Over Coax technology (PoC), which allowed us to replace the entire CCTV system with HD quality cameras over the existing infrastructure. This saved the centre massively on costly re-cabling works and reduced the overall labour time to less than two days from start to finish.

Additionally, by using PoC, there was no requirement for additional power supplies as all power for the cameras was provided by the new NVR (Network Video Recorder), resulting in a further cost reduction.

Further to this, the PoC system is far more environmentally friendly than the previous system that the centre was using. As a result, they are also reducing their carbon footprint whilst reducing running costs. This additional benefit is crucial to lower carbon emissions and as time goes by it is becoming more important to retailers who may look to rent out spaces in shopping centres.
